The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development has been put on the spot for failing to plan and use 36 million dollars savings from a loan meant for the Electricity Development Project.
According to a June 21st letter energy minister Irene Muloni, finance minister Matia Kasaija expresses disappointment with his colleague for failing to utilize the resources at her disposal yet she had the opportunity.
Kasaija says it is unfortunate the minister failed to use the savings to finance unfunded priorities in the sector like the electrification of industrial parks in Kapeeka, Sukulu and Mbale.
He has now recommended that the minister and other technocrats behind this face disciplinary action.
The minster’s tough response follows a 1st June 2018 letter from the energy ministry to the finance ministry seeking to initiate the cancellation process of this utilized loan.
