The Vice Chancellor of Makerere University Prof John Dumba Ssentamu has bid farewell ahead of the end of his term in office in August 2017.
Addressing the last batch of graduands at the 67th graduation ceremony at Makerere University on Friday morning, Prof Ssentamu said his term in office ends on 31st August this year but he is eligible for another five-year term.
Prof. Ddumba assumed office in September 2012, taking over from former Vice Chancellor Prof Venansious Baryamureeba.
He described his tenure as tough, but one that taught him a lot of lessons and commended the University Council and management for their support.
One of the most challenging moments during his tenure was the November 2016 closure of the university due to strikes by both students and lecturers.
He however expressed optimism that the Visitation Committee that was appointed by president Yoweri Museveni to investigate alleged mismanagement will come up with lasting solutions to the many problems facing the university.
