Government has finally agreed to enhance salaries of all lecturers in public universities and consequently clear the outstanding commitment for salary enhancement for lecturers and non- teaching staff.
Government in the last financial year had allocated Shs58.5bn towards salary enhancement of lecturers in public universities but it has never been remitted.
While addressing journalists at the Uganda Media Center about the resolutions made by cabinet yesterday, the centers’ executive director Ofwono Opondo said the finance ministry has been asked to clear that amount before the end of this financial year.
Last month the teaching and the non-teaching staff from the nine public universities announced a nationwide strike following government’s failure to consider them for salary enhancement and payment of their arrears in the next financial year’s budget.
