The President of the International Criminal Court Judge Silvia Fernandez de Gurmendi jets into the country today o invitation by the Trust Fund for Victims.
Jimmy Otim the ICC Field Outreach Assistant for Uganda says during her week-long visit she is expected to make a maiden visit to Northern Uganda.
He says the ICC president will meet war victims at Lukodi village in Bungatira Sub County, Gulu District, where 54 people were killed allegedly under the command of former Lord’s Resistance Army rebel commander Dominic Ongwen in May 2004.
Ongwen is currently at the ICC detention center in the Netherlands facing 70 counts of charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity he allegedly committed in northern Uganda.
His trial resumes on February 27th 2017.
