East African Community (EAC) leaders have been challenged to walk the integration talk. This follows renewed calls by the leaders during Uganda’s 60th independence anniversary celebrations held over the weekend.
Both Kenya’s William Ruto and President Yoweri Museveni made a case for the fast-tracking of the EAC integration to eliminate borders and barriers that separate people for the transformation of the region.
However, while speaking to KFM, the executive director of the East and Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders Project (Defend Defenders), Dr. Hassan Shire said much as the leaders have exhibited some willingness, there is so far no commitment for federation.
Shire adds that there is need for more efforts towards enlightening the masses about the benefits of the integration.
Meanwhile, Edgar Tabaro, a lawyer and Special Envoy of Sudan’s oldest political party, UMMA warned that unless the objective of integration is made clear, it will not be a success.
