The Court of Appeal will conduct its inaugural civil appeals and applications session outside Kampala. The session is scheduled to take place in Gulu from September 25 to 27, 2024. A total of 22 civil appeals and applications will be heard during this time.
Justices Fredrick Egonda-Ntende, Cheborion Barishaki, and Christopher Gashirabake will preside over the session.
According to the cause list signed by the Court’s Registrar, Allen Rukundo Owembabazi, land-related disputes constitute the majority of cases, with 16 appeals.
Other matters to be addressed include criminal trespass, challenges to High Court orders, damage claims, stays of execution, interim measures, contract disputes, validation of appeals, stays of proceedings, and striking out notices of appeal.
Following the Gulu session, the Court of Appeal plans to hold similar upcountry sessions in other regions of Uganda. The next session is anticipated to take place in Mbarara during the subsequent quarter.
