A group of concerned citizens led by a lawyer Andrew Karamagi have called for the cancellation of the contract awarded to SGS in the ongoing Mandatory Vehicle Inspection citing irregularities.
Karamagi has told journalists that a contract which had stalled for six years cannot be reissued without any renegotiations and adjustments to the terms.
They are now demanding the renegotiation of the contract and for the government to allow fresh bidding by interested companies.
The call comes just a few days after the speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga directed the parliaments committee to investigate SGS’ contract terms.
Kadaga’s directive was prompted by several concerns raised by MPs who questioned the validity of the contract given to SGS which was signed with government in March 2015 to routinely inspect vehicles, largely to get cars in poor mechanical condition off the roads and reduce accidents.
