Masaka High Court has sentenced a 32 year old man for defiling a 12 years cousin.
Robert Twesigye a resident of Kisinda Village in Lwamagwa Sub County in Rakai has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for defiling his cousin a former primary two pupil of St. Aloysius Primary School.
Court presided over by Masaka High Court Judge Justice John Keitirima, heard that Twesigye, committed the offence on 7th September 2012 when her mother had gone for burial.
Prosecution led by Anna Kiiza told court that Twesigye took the advantage of the absence of the victim’s mother FaustaNabimaana who had gone to attend burial ceremony at the nearby village.
She said that the medical report showed that the girls’ hymen had been ruptured adding that Twesigye had threatened to kill the victim if she had reported the matter to her mother.
Kizza asked court to give Twesigye a maximum punishment because there is a rise in cases of defilement in the region.
However, the convict asked court to give him a minimum punishment because he has spent 3 years on remand and he is regrettable for his actions.
The presiding Judge Justice, Keitirima said that court has considered the three years Twesigye has spent on remand sentencing him to 12 year imprisonment.
