The founders of Monitor Publications LTD have described as humbling their beginnings which have yielded into a great harvest.
The Daily Monitor today celebrates 30 years of independent journalism.
The Monitor was started by seven founders who left the Weekly Topic, three namely; Ogen-Kevin Aliro, Richard Tebere, and Teddy Ssezi Cheeye are deceased.
The others are Wafula Oguttu, David Ouma Balikoowa, Charles Onyango Obbo and Jimmy Serugo.
According to Wafula Oguttu, the motivation to start The Monitor was not to make money but rather to create a place where people are free to express themselves and also train journalists.
Oguttu adds that his inspiration was to augment the Weekly Topic after they felt that its owners had joined the government.
He meanwhile also shares how the name, Monitor was reached because it was initially supposed to be called the flame.
