News Political System Needed, Rev Canon Grace Kaiso

A voter holds a ballot while waiting in line at a polling station in Uganda's capital Kampala on February 18, 2011 to vote in presidential and parliamentary elections. Some 14 million voters started voting on February 18 in polls widely predicted to return long-time leader Yoweri Museveni to power, with a fragmented opposition crying foul even before the ballot. Uganda needs a new political model capable of accommodating all leaders including those with divergent views.

The General Secretary, Council of Anglican Provinces of Africa, Rev Canon Grace Kaiso says both the movement and multiparty systems have polarized the country, along regional and ideological lines which must be discarded.

Kaiso says parliament should embark on a process of seeking views from Ugandans on an indigenous political system that will be inclusive and easy to implement.
