The Judiciary will continue with its scheduled opening of the new Law Year today despite a boycott by a section of stakeholders.
This is after the Uganda Law Society said it would shun the ceremony to be held at the High Court this morning, in protest of the continued absence of a substantive Chief Justice and Deputy.
However the Judiciary’s deputy spokesperson Araali Muhirwa tells KFM that everything is set and will go on as planned, noting that the day is for the public as well and not just the legal fraternity.
The Law Society had argued that attending the ceremony for a second consecutive year would amount to sanctioning and lending support to the unfortunate state of affairs to continue.
The position of Chief Justice fell vacant in March 2013 following the retirement of Chief Justice Benjamin Odoki upon clocking the 70 years mandatory retirement age and demise of Justice Constance Byamugisha as the deputy in early 2013.
