Makerere University Vice-Chancellor, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe has suspended 12 students from the University premise for protesting against online lessons.

This pushes the number of suspended students over various reasons to 15, three days after the reopening of the institution for the 2022 academic year.

The 12 students who were arrested on Monday for protesting against online teaching received their suspension letter today morning while still incarcerated at Wandegeya police station where they spent a night. These were after released.

Prof Nawangwe is accusing the students in question of vandalizing the University property, disrupting teaching and learning, inciting violence and physical assault on the morning of February 7.

The affected students according to Prof Nawangwe will be invited before the students’ disciplinary committee for an interaction on the date to be communicated to them.

These students are not permitted to appear before the University premise until the final decision is reached by the disciplinary Committee.
