The government has established a National Multi-Sectoral El Niño task force to monitor and discuss progress in preparedness by the concerned sectors.
The team includes ministries of Works, Health, Relief, Agriculture, Education, among others
According to a statement from the ministry of disaster preparedness, all the ministries are working out plans to mitigate effects of Elnino.
Commissioner relief disaster preparedness and management Martin Owor says Ministry of health is working to relocate Kilembe Referral Hospital patients, equipment and staff to another place with the hospital to be temporarily closed until after the El Nino period.
He further says schools prone to flooding in Kasese will also be closed before the rains reach the peak in mid-November.
The Ministry of Health is organising to procure and deliver to District Hospitals and Health Units adequate quantities of drugs for treatment of the likely epidemics of malaria, cholera, typhoid etc.
