The National Agricultural Research Organization is set to roll out four new anti-tick vaccines developed by Ugandan scientists in December 2021 followed by commercialization in June next year.
The newly developed anti-tick vaccines are Brown ear tick, blue tick, bont tick and cocktail 1, 2, 3.
This was revealed by the director general of NARO Ambrose Agona during celebrations to mark international world food day at Kawanda institute on Saturday.
He says these locally developed vaccines will help the government to save Shs 3.7 trillion in importation of tick-borne vaccines from outside countries.
Agona added that, the vaccines will go a long way in helping farmers address issues of ticks and their health will be safe as before they used to use Acaricides which are dangerous to human life.
