Nambooze to seek permission

David Kugonza | October 5, 2016

Mukono Municipality MP, Betty Nambooze is expected to table a motion seeking leave of parliament to introduce a Private member’s bill for the enactment of the “Alcoholic Drinks Control Act” 2016.

The bill aims at harmonising all alcohol related laws into only one that would slap tougher sanctions on alcohol consumption and abuse.

Nambooze also intends for the law to prohibit the sale of alcohol to children be punished severely with jail sentences.

The bill will also propose the creation of local council committees that would bar the consumption of alcohol before 5:00pm and after1:00 am whose breach would attract a fine of 2 million shillings or one year in jail.
