Parliament’s Defence and Internal Affairs Committee chairperson, Judith Nabakooba has dismissed accusations from a section of members as scornful.

Committee members mainly from the opposition led by Butambala County MP and shadow internal affairs minister Muwanga Kivumbi stormed out of a committee session this morning accusing Nabakooba of bias.

The committee was scheduled for an interface with the Police Chief Gen Kale Kayihura who instead sent his deputy Julius Okoth Ochola under unclear grounds. He was expected to answer queries relating to the numerous cases of police brutality.

When members raised concerns seeking justifications for the Police Chief’s inability to appear before them, Nabakkoba ruled them out of order prompting them to walk out.

However, the former Police Spokesperson, now the Mityana Woman MP says that the members’ actions were merely political and the accusations are baseless.

She maintains that despite the walkout, the committee achieved its purpose for today’s meeting.
