The Executive is expected to give its position on the fate of Bank of Uganda governor, Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile this afternoon.
Prof. Mutebile is on the spotlight over his role in the payment of 142 billion shillings to city businessman, Hassan Basajjabalaba as compensation for the cancellation of his contract to manage Nakasero and Owino markets, as well as the Constitutional Square.

In its report to Parliament, the Public Accounts Committee recommended that Prof. Mutebile be relieved of his duties for making what they termed as illegal payments to Basajjabalaba.

Last week, following the resignation of former Attorney General, Prof. Khiddu Makubuya and Syda Bbumba over the same, committee chairman, Kassiano Wadri gave the Executive 3 days to give their position on the goveror’s fate.

The Cabinet sub-committee that is currently studying the PAC report is chaired by Defense minister, Crispus Kiyonga.

The acting government chief whip, Daudi Migereko says the committee should be given time to do its work and come up with a conclusive report.
