By Damali Mukhaye:
President Yoweri Museveni has this afternoon directed that irrelevant courses at Makerere University be phased out immediately as a precondition for the government to increase salary of the institution’s lecturers.
The president has demanded that a number of undergraduate courses taught at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Department of Economics to be phased.
He argues that students are being taught Economics but they do not understand the economy of Uganda.
He said that once these causes, which he calls irrelevant, are phased out, the government will then concentrate on paying lecturers who are teaching courses that respond to the needs of the job market.
