President Museveni has suspended campaigns for speaker and deputy until such a time when the chief justice will meet the 11th parliament at its first sitting on May 20th.
Museveni made the order during an NRM meeting that was convened at the statehouse on Monday after he summoned speaker Rebecca Kadaga and her deputy Jacob Oulanya as the race heats up.
The meeting followed the bickering, attacks, and abuses on the floor of parliament over the election of the speaker.
Earlier, Kadaga accused the chief whip Ruth Nakanbirwa of dragging CEC into the discussion on matters that are internal to parliament.
Sources in the meeting said Museveni warned all those dragging the Central executive Committee, CEC in politics to stop it adding that he will not tolerate indiscipline.
The president also threatened that CEC might decide to choose other NRM candidates apart from the two.
Sources say Kadaga in defense accused her deputy of starting campaigns in contravention of the rules, a claim Oulanya denied.
Voting for speaker and the deputy is by secret ballot.
