President Yoweri Museveni’s legal team has this afternoon filed its defence at the Supreme Court against a petition challenging his re-election.
The team of 39 lawyers will be defending the president over a petition challenging the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.
Led by Kiryowa Kiwanuka, the lawyers say they are now set to defend their client.
The defence team’s response has been received by the Supreme Court Registrar Tom Chemtai.
Former premier Amama Mbabazi petitioned the Supreme Court last week over alleged electoral malpractices in the February 18th elections.
The president was served with the petition by Mbabazi’s lawyers led by Severino Twinobusingye at State House Entebbe on Thursday.
Besides the president, the other respondents are the Attorney General and Electoral Commission.
A pre-hearing conference is scheduled for tomorrow before a hearing date can be set.
