FDC President Rtd. Maj. General Mugisha Muntu has added voice to those protesting the amendment of Article 102 (b) of the constitution to remove the presidential age limit.
He says removing the age limit will put the country’s future in a state of uncertainty.
Those against the move argue that such amendments would undermine Uganda’s constitution and essentially give President Museveni lee way to rule for life. Museveni is 73 years old and with current constitution, he will not be eligible to contest since he will be above the age of 75 by 2021 when Uganda hold the next election.
Addressing journalists this morning, Muntu urged proponents of the amendment to reflect on the country’s history and avoid making decisions which may lead to war, arguing that Uganda’s past political problems were rooted in the lack of democratic processes.
Meanwhile, he called on Uganda’s security forces to stand with the people of Uganda and avoid being used by the state.
