Jailed Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere has filed a fresh bail application before the Jinja High Court.
In his second bail application, the king lists bail as his Constitutional right, his advanced age of 64 years and ill-health as some of the exceptional circumstances upon which court should base it’s lenience to grant him bail.
Mumbere was on Monday last week remanded back to Luzira prison after he was arraigned before the Jinja Magistrates court and charged with new counts including terrorism, murder and attempted murder.
Mumbere’s lawyers from Alaka and company Advocates however maintain that the king’s first bail granted to him on 13th January 2017 still stands despite his immediate re-arrest.
According to the charge sheet that the state presented before Chief Magistrate Francis Kaggwa, Mumbere is jointly charged with twenty others for the offenses that they are said to have committed between the months of July and November last 2016 at Bukara Village, Kabonero subcounty, and at Nyabutsi villiage, Karangura subcounty in Kabalore district.
