Members of the 10th parliament have been urged to fully support the Alcohol Drinks Control Bill 2016.
The proposed bill by Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze seeks to regulate the manufacture, advertising, supply and consumption of alcoholic drinks.
Speaking at a workshop in Kampala, the chairperson of the Uganda alcohol policy alliance David Kalema said Uganda suffers worst alcohol related negative consequences worldwide like accidents, violence and death.
He says there is need to regulate pricing through increased taxation and regulating all forms of advertising and marketing and restricting access to protect the youths.
The motion seeking leave of parliament to table the bill was stayed by parliament to allow for more discussions between government and the private mover.
