Some Members of Parliament are still skeptical about government’s plan to buy off surplus grain from farmers at Ug Shs 500.
Early this week the ministry of agriculture said it had set aside some money to buy maize from farmers to save them from losses especially now that the price per kilo as gone as low as Shs 200.
However the Member of Parliament for Kapelebyong Julius Ochensays government’s response was just a stop gap measure that cannot be implemented immediately.
He says in this financial year’s budget there was no specific allocation for that purpose and so the promise is simply meant to hoodwink farmers.
