Parliament’s committee on national economy has declined to approve a shs34bn supplementary loan request by government to finance the Inter-Connection of Electric Grids of the Nile Equatorial Lakes Countries Project.

Legislators instead demanded for the performance of the previous loan and justifications for any supplementary.

Tororo MP Patrick Angura says the performance of the previous loan should be looked at very critically before we approve the next one.

Committee Chairperson Syda Bbumba has tasked ministers of state for finance David Bahati and his energy counterpart
Simon D’ujanga to report on the performance of the previous loan
before they can approve the current supplementary loan request.
