MPs Reject Proposal To Peg Their Pay To Attendance
Members of Parliament have dismissed a proposal to peg their salaries to attendance.
The proposal was fronted by civil society organisations that petitioned the speaker over continued absenteeism of the legislators.
The CSOs led by the Anti-Corruption Coalition Uganda(ACCU) argued that taxpayers were getting no value for money with the continued absence of the MPs suggesting that their salaries be based on the times they attend with the balance sent to constituencies for service delivery.
However one of the MPs Michael Mawanda who represents Igara East says no one deliberately misses parliamentary business.
The speaker and deputy speaker have in the past expressed concern over the low turn up of legislators, saying it was slowing down parliamentary business.
