Women MPs under the Uganda Women Parliamentarians Association have agreed to drop the provisions relating to cohabitation from the marriage and divorce bill.
The chairperson of the association Betty Amongi says that since the tabling of the bill they have received concerns from different stake holders including the religious leaders over the same clause.
She says that they saw that it was important to drop the clause, in agreement that cohabitation is not a recognized form of marriage.
She says the term cohabitation is so wide and could not be put in the Marriage and Divorce bill.
She also argued that they agreed to drop the issue of separation because it will be irrelevant after the issue of cohabitation has been dropped;
The Marriage and Divorce Bill is now before parliament for debate but has received opposition from religious leaders who say that the bill is against the existing norms.
