Court has nullified the election of yet another MP, with fresh polls ordered for Kagoma County.
The High Court in Jinja has nullified the election of Fredrick Nkayi Mbagadi as the Kagoma MP over irregularities in the exercise.
Mbagadi was sued by his rival Frank Nabwiso, who accused the Electoral Commission of messing up the process and denying him victory.
Nabwiso cited intimidation of voters and bribery as some of the irregularities in the process.
Justice Lameka Mukasa in his ruling read by Justice Eldad Mwanguhya says there was substantive evidence to prove that the elections were conducted in an unfair process.
The judge has ordered fresh polls in a ruling he says would send a message to all stakeholders on the importance of having fair polls.
The judge has also ordered the Electoral Commission to foot the bills for the costs of the suit for both Mbagadi and Dr Nabwiso, saying its officials failed to preside over the process.
The Courts have nullified the elections of several other MPs including the FDC’s Dr. Eptait Francis of Ngora County and Tony Kipoi of Bubulo West.
