10 out of every 100 Ugandans are diabetic.

The increasing cases of diabetes are worrying health officials.

The ministry of health has expressed concern over the growing number of new cases of diabetic patients.

According to the program manager Non Communicable Diseases, Dr. Gerald Mutungi the latest figures are alarming.

He also notes that 80% of these report to hospitals when it is too late to be helped.

Dr. Mutungi attributes the trend to the lack of physical exercises, unhealthy diets and over consumption of alcohol.

He now appeals to the general public to always go for check-up at least once a year for those under the age of 40 and twice a year for those who are older.
