The fighting in Western Equatoria State in South Sudan continues to drive refugees into Uganda.

There however is a glimmer of hope for an end to this situation with the signing of the peace deal by South Sudan president expected later today.

The unresolved peace agreement between South Sudan government forces and forces loyal to former vice president Dr. Riek Machar has continued to cause uncertainty among their nationals forcing many to seek refuge in Uganda.

The refugee desk officer at the office of the Prime Minister, Solomon Osakan says this is coupled with lawlessness of armed pastoralists and secret killings by both government and opposition forces.

Latest statistics from the Refugee Desk indicates that over 1000 refugees have sought for asylum into Uganda since the beginning of August 2015.

This increases the number South Sudanese refugees into Uganda to over 16,000 since December 2013 when the war broke out between forces loyal to President Salva Kiir and Dr. Riek Machar.
