The number of female students who have been registered to sit for the forthcoming Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) is higher than their male counterparts compared to the previous years.
Out of 749,811 candidates slated to sit for PLE, 395,855 pupils are females while 353,957 are male.
This means the number of female pupils surpasses their male counter-parts by a difference of 41,898.
The Uganda National Examinational Board (Uneb) Executive Secretary, Daniel Odongo says they have never registered this number for the last four years much as the number of girls has always been high.
Odongo meanwhile attributes the rise in the number of female students on reports that parents with Primary six female students registered their learners to sit for PLE because they were not sure when schools were going to open.
He says Uneb teams are in the field colleting this information.
Pupils will sit for their final papers tomorrow (Tuesday) with Mathematics in the morning and Social Studies and religious education in the evening and complete on Wednesday with integrated science in the morning and English in the afternoon.
