The minister for higher education John Chrysostom Muyingo has revealed that the government is set to recruit 3800 teachers in the next financial year to improve on performance of students in science subjects.
Speaking at the release of the Uganda advanced certificate of education results in Kampala, Muyingo says that out of the planned number, 1,900 will be science teachers since the performance of students in science subjects is worsening.
He says that the government is also going to buy more text books for sciences subjects and increase laboratories in all the schools to ensure that students do more practical as compared to theory.
He notes that they are also not going to license schools that will not have have laboratories since lack of practical’s in most schools has participated greatly in the poor performance of students in sciences.
