The Ministry of Education has asked the local government to release payment of capitation grants to schools and institutions in line with the phased re-opening plan 2021/2022.

In a circular dated October 7th from the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ketty Lamaro, the funds for decentralised health institutions should have been fully released to facilitate their operation because they reopened last month.

She says the funds for decentralised tertiary institutions should also be released quickly to enable them to prepare for reopening on 1st November.

Lamaro adds that the capitation grants for primary and secondary schools are to be released two weeks prior to reopening which is expected in January next year.

Institutions that are meant to receive the grants have been asked to ensure that they budget for and purchase consumables for implementation of the Standard Operating Procedures within the planned period.
