Medical experts have convinced the NRM caucus in Kyankwanzi that there is no scientific evidence to prove that homosexuality is a genetic disorder.
Last year, Parliament passed the Anti Homosexuality act, which criminalises the acts; however, President Yoweri Museveni said he would not assent to the bill, on grounds that it needed to be studied first on whether the vice is a genetic disorder.
A team of 17 experts, including Dr. Sheila Ndyanabangi, Dr. Jane Achieng and Dr. Jacinto Amandua, made presentations before the caucus this evening, in which they outlined four major issues.
According to the caucus spokesperson, Evelyn Anite, there is no definitive gene responsible for homosexuality; it is not a disease, an abnormality.
They further contended that in every society, there is a small number of people with definitive homosexuality tendencies.
Anite says the President has told the Caucus that he has now been convinced and will assent to the bill.
Religious leaders have fully supported the bill, while some countries in the Western World have condemned Parliament for passing the bill, which they say violates human rights.
