Government is set to construct a multi-million Euro Cancer center in Mbarara district, to reduce the burden from the national Cancer Institute at Mulago hospital.
This has been revealed by Sarah Byakika the Commissioner of Planning in the Ministry of health while addressing journalists in Mbarara.
Byakika says plans are underway for the construction of the cancer facility for the Western Region at a cost of 100million Euros, a loan from Australia.
Byakika says the facility will be setup at a two acre piece land that was donated by Mbarara University of Science and Technology.
The senior Hospital Administrator of Uganda Cancer Institute Richard Tumwesigye says plans for other regions like in Mbale, Gulu and Arua are also underway.
