The Masaka District Land Board has allocated 259 hectares of land to Chinese investors to set up a regional industrial park.

According to Peter Ssenkungu , the district land board chairperson , the land giveaway was in response to a presidential directive to enable government set up a an economic zone for Chinese firms in Uganda.

Ssenkungu said the allocated land in Mazigo Village along the Nyendo-Bukakata Road in Bukakata Sub County is purely public land and has no occupants although there are pastoralists currently using it for grazing.

Through the China-Africa Local Government Cooperation forum hosted in Beijing-China in 2012, leaders of the eight districts of greater Masaka led by the Vice President Edward Ssekandi entered into partnership with authorities of Yibin Municipality in Sichuan Province to identify and link them to potential investors who can invest in Uganda, particularly in greater Masaka area.
