Police in Masaka are holding five officials of Masaka Regional Referral Hospital administrators for allegedly mismanaging over shillings 5.8 billion for development projects.

The suspects in Police custody are the Hospital Director, Dr. Florence Tugumisirize, Principal Administrator Eleazor Mugisha, Dr.  Kamara Oyisega ,Dr Dismas Wandera, and Milton Ondama.

The group has been arrested on orders of Collins Karugaba, an external auditor from state house who discovered gaps in the books of accounts of the Regional Referral hospital.

Preliminary Police investigations indicate that more than Shs5.8 billion is missing and none of the administrators could give a convincing explanation for this loss.

Karugaba says that some of the missing funds were given to the hospital for construction works that government has been carrying out at the hospital since 2013 and other development projects.

Moses Kakiryo, the Officer In charge of Masaka Police station, has confirmed the arrest of the officials but declined to give details about the matter.
