Masaka accident claims three

Three people have died in accident that occurred this afternoon along the Masaka-Kampala Highway.

A Subaru registration number UAS 139W rammed into FUSO truck registration number UAM 001F.

The FUSO, laden with bags of maize flour, was travelling from Kampala to Kabale, when the Subaru which was coming from the opposite direction rammed into it.

Three out of the five occupants of the Subaru died on the spot, one of them a woman. Two others were critically injured and have been rushed to Masaka referral hospital.

Police say the driver of the Subaru attempted to overtake another vehicle and then rammed into the Truck.

The dead have been identified as Sydney Asiimwe an employee of National Water and Sewerage Corporation, who was driving the car. The other is Tom Muhumuza, while the woman is yet to be identified.

Those injured are Arnold Muhwezi, a student of Makerere University and Nicholas Agaba, a businessman.

The Officer in charge of traffic at Kalungu police station Deogratius Kweyamba, has attributed the accident to over speeding.
