Official deployment of security at Namugongo is set to kick off today ahead of the June 3rd annual Martyrs’ Day celebrations.
This is confirmed by the chairperson of the Organising Committee at the Anglican site, Rt Rev Reuben Kisembo, who says early deployment of security personnel is meant to secure pilgrims and their properties, after the first batch of 12 arrived yesterday.
Kisembo say Namugongo Martyrs Shrine is usually a bee hive of activities which attracts petty thieves and other forms of lawlessness.
Meanwhile, Kisembo notes that preparations the Anglican Church are still hampered by a Shs350 million budget shortfall.
The Church had earlier on May 7 indicated a Shs 600m shortfall, but has since been able to raise about half of the money from well-wishers.
President Museveni pledged Shs 1.5bn out of the entire budget of Shs2.2 billion, but according to the organizing committee this promise is yet to materialize.
