Democratic Party (DP) President, Norbert Mao has made a U turn and sworn in the new Masaka DP leadership despite his earlier opposition.
Last week, Mao said swearing in the group would escalate internal divisions within the party.
During the ceremony, he promised that the party’s top leadership will convene on Tuesday to look into the members grievances.
A faction led by Bukoto East MP Florence Namayanja claims that the grassroots elections were marred by irregularities.
The elections held in April this year were organized by a group of Masaka DP Leaders led by the party’s legal adviser Fred Mukasa Mbidde in defiance of an order by Mathias Mpuga, the party Secretary General, stopping the elections.
Mao has now called for unity within the party ahead of next year’s general elections.

Mao says he could not stop the swearing in ceremony because the organizers of the function had already scheduled it.
Fred Denis Mbidde says that his leadership is going to work tirelessly to unite the aggrieved party members.
