The opposition Democratic Party has called for an amendment of the rules of Parliament to have the Human Rights Committee of Parliament headed by the opposition.
DP President Norbert Mao says this is the only way the government will be audited well on human rights issues.
Mao adds that this proposal was also extended to the Human Rights Committee during their visit a few months ago.
Mao’s call comes as various reports from rights bodies continue to pin security agencies for gross human rights violations with the most notable being the assault on journalists and other Ugandans during and after elections.
