Operators of Small scale industries have strongly condemned the increase in power tariffs.
They say the rise in the unit price of electricity is going to increase production costs hence pushing up the price of the finished products.
The managing director Uganda Small Scale Industries Association John Walugembe says this needs to be addressed if Uganda’s manufactured products are to compete favorably on the regional market.
Yesterday the Electricity Regulatory Authority announced an increase in power tariffs that take effect today.
Domestic consumers will now have to pay 531 shillings up from shillings518.7 , while commercial consumers will have to pay shillings Sh602 up from shillings485 .
And the large industrial consumers will have to part with shillings383.5  up from shillings308.5.
