Man Sentenced to Death for Killing His Two Wives

admin | June 2, 2015

Court of Appeal has upheld a death sentence that was handed to a man who killed his two wives in Masaka.

Three justices Remmy Kasule, Faith Mwondha and Richard Buteera up held the sentence by the then Masaka High Court judge Vincent Kibuuka Musoke after observing that a 15years old son of the convict was mature enough to identify his father and mother.

A 15 year old son was a sole witness who identified his father cutting his mother and step mother with a panga.

Stephen Turyamwijuka on May 26th 2005 at Rwentulege village in Lyantonde slaughtered his two wives Dina Kekigombe and Maria Bashabe after getting marital understandings.

According to the evidence on Court records Turyamwijuka was fighting with one of his wife then the second was killed while trying to rescue her co-wife.

The accused had challenged the death sentence and conviction saying there was no evidence linking him to the murder of his wives.

But the judges found out that Turyamwijuka handed himself to Lyantonde police station with blood stained body and voluntarily confessed of having killed his wives.

Justices ruled that the trial judge in Masaka Vincent Musoke Kibuuka well used his judicial description to impose the sentence.
