Residents of Kaswa village in Katikamu Subcounty Luweero District have set ablaze the body of a man suspected to have hacked to death his wife and a daughter before committing suicide.
The body of the suspected assailant identified as John Nsigiriyarema Byaruhanga was discovered by children at a nearby borehole, about 1km from the scene where he hacked to death his wife identified as Rose Nanteza and his daughter only identified as Maureen at their rented room which he also set ablaze in the early morning hours of Friday.
“It is unfortunate that the person we had started hunting to help in the investigation related to the two murdered people has also committed suicide. The suspect made several telephone calls to authorities including the police at 1:00am indicating that he had already killed his wife and a daughter and would soon take his own life. The residents and police rushed to the scene and put out the fire,” Mr Elias Bairuka the Luweero District CIID boss said on Friday.
Katikamu Subcounty LCIII Chairman Mr Samuel Serunjogi said he received a call from a man who did not identify himself but said he had already killed his wife and daughter and was about to take his own life because he was not ready to go to jail after killing two people.
“I called police to try to locate the person and the village he had mentioned at about 1:30am. We eventually located the place where we found residents trying to put out a house fire while the two dead bodies were in a pool of blood. It is unfortunate the neighbors had him bit his wife but decided to rush to the residence of the local council official without intervening to stop the action of this man,”Mr Serunjogi said.
Nsigiriyarema spared three of his young children whom he reportedly pulled out of the house before hacking to death his wife and elder daughter.
“He continued calling us and directing us where the mother of the other three children is staying and informing us that we shall not get him alive at around 3:00am before switching off his cell phone. He even gave us names of some of his relatives but could not mention the places where they stay. This man was very brave while communicating. It is unfortunate that even his neighbors could not save the situation,”Mr Serunjogi said.
At 10:00am children who had gone to fetch water at a borehole saw a dead body under a tree and alerted residents. The body was located about 1km from the place where the murder incident was committed. The angry residents set the body ablaze in revenge for the gruesome murder of the two people.
According to the residents, Nsigiriyarema has been a casual laborer working on farms and believed to be a Rwandese although he has been claiming to be a resident of Kisoro District.
The bodies of the two people murdered at Kaswa village have been taken to Kasana Health Centre IV mortuary as police and residents wait for relatives to claim the two bodies.
