Police in Ibanda district are holding a man who is accused of strangling his 10 year old mentally ill son. The deceased who has been identified as Hassan Mubarak is said to have had a mental illness for years that propelled his father to kill him.
Speaking at a weekly press briefing on Monday, Mr Fred Enanga the police spokesperson identified the suspect as Mahad Kasawuli a resident of Isongoro trading centre Ibanda district.
“Our officers at Ibanda police station have embarked on investigations to establish what compelled Kasawuli to kill his own son. He will be presented to court answer charges of murder soon after the investigations,” Mr Enanga said.
This is not the first incident where parents have killed their children in unclear circumstances. For instance, In February, police in Kakumiro, Kibaale district held a mother accusing her of assaulting her 3-year-old daughter to death.
Mr Jackson Arinaitwe, the Criminal Investigations Officer at Kakumiro police station identified the suspect as Yosofina Uwimaana, a resident of Mwitanzigye Trading center in Kisiita Sub County.
