Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki has challenged universities to take the lead in entrepreneurship and innovation, if they are to compete with first world countries.
Kibaki made the call after receiving an honorary degree of masters of law from Makerere University, accompanied by President Yoweri Museveni.
President Kibaki holds a historic record of being the first graduand to have received a first class bachelor of Economics degree in 1955 of Makerere University.
President Mwai Kibaki says the enormous challenges facing Africa can largely be solved if universities help provide home grown solutions.
Kibaki also noted that the transformation of Africa will only be faster if universities embrace innovations in technology and promote entrepreneurship.
President Yoweri Museveni saluted the university’s scientists whom he says are moving fast in technological innovations in the country.
Museveni pledged government’s continued financial support to realize the completion of scientific innovative projects to address Africa’s challenges.
