The ministry of Agriculture has declared an outbreak of maize fall armyworm in Uganda.
Early this year, the same worm attacked several countries in Southern Africa, and severely affected crop yields leading to severe famine.
Speaking to Kfm, the Director Crop Resources in the Ministry of Agriculture Okasai Opolot, said that they have officially confirmed the outbreak and spread of this disease to Uganda.
He however said that earlier the government had already ring-fenced one billion shillings in anticipation of the spread of the worm to Uganda.
Luweero district is the most affected part of the country.
