Police at Kyazanga in Lwengo district are holding a couple for torturing their 3 year old grandchild.

Isa Ssekamate and his wife Justine Nyirakihiza residents of Kanyogoga Village, Kyazanga Sub County in Lwengo District have been arrested for reportedly mistreating their grandchild.
The couple’s arrest followed neighbors complaints to the village authorities that reported the matter to police that arrested the duo.

According to Gertrude Natoro the in charge of Child and Family Affairs at Kanyogoga Village the couple has been mistreated the minor by starving him and they had locked him into a room where he has been spending most of his time.

She says that preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was bared outside the wedlock which prompted his father to ask his parents to look after him but instead they decided to lock him in the house.

The Southern Region Police Spokesperson Noah Sserunjogi has confirmed the duo arrest saying that the minor’s growth has been greatly affected by the mistreatment he has been going through.

He says that the victim has been taken to hospital as a hunt for his father goes on.
Sserunjogi says that the suspects are likely to face charges of child torture when police investigations are completed.
