Kampala City Lord mayor elect Erias Lukwago has castigated the continued house arrest of the National Unity Platform president, Robert Kyagulanyi.

Security agencies have denied Kyagulanyi the opportunity to leave his house since presidential elections that were held a week ago.

Speaking shortly after being officially declared winner of the Kampala mayoral race, Lukwago said the continued house arrest of Kyagulanyi and denying him access to lawyers and other visitors is a violation of his rights.

Lukwago says working through the umbrella body, Unity in diversity, he will work with all other political players to secure the freedom of Kyagulanyi and release of those NUP supporters who were arrested and imprisoned ahead of last week’s polls.

Lukwago has won the race after garnering, 194,592 votes beating NUPs Nabila Nagayi Ssempala who got 60,082 votes out of the 295,592 valid votes cast.

The race attracted 11 candidates.
