The Leader of Opposition (LOP), Joel Ssenyonyi, has welcomed the motion for the censure of four Commissioners of Parliament, spearheaded by the ruling National Resistance Movement legislators.
Speaking to journalists at Parliament, Ssenyonyi said this move should dispel public arguments suggesting that the National Unity Platform’s (NUP) criticism of the service award was a personal attack on his predecessor, Mathias Mpuuga, rather than a call to address the irregularities surrounding the award.
His remarks followed a pronouncement by MPs, led by Lwemiyaga County’s Theodore Ssekikubo, who called for the removal of all MPs on the Parliamentary Commission over the Shs500M they received earlier.
Ssenyonyi stated that he is glad the issue has now gone beyond just the NUP, as it had previously been perceived as a personal conflict between the party leadership and Mpuuga.
Ssenyonyi revealed that he will be appending his signature to the censure motion to ensure that the four commissioners are removed from their positions.
The accused commissioners include Esther Afoyochan (Zombo DWR), Prossy Akampulira (Rubanda DWR), Solomon Silwany (Bukooli Central), and Mathias Mpuuga (Nyendo-Mukungwe).
